Deuth Angie Cooks Source Magazine Assignment

1. This article was about a woman, Gaudio, who did a write-up of apple tarts for her online cookbook. Unfortunately, her recipe was also printed in the Cook Source magazine without Gaudio's permission. When Gaudio contacted the editor, Griggs, she pointed out the fact that Griggs did not ask permission to include her recipe and also asked for $130 and an apology. Griggs responded back by admitting her mistake, but refused to offer restitution and an apology and told Gaudio that the web is considered public domain. 2. No, Cook's Magazine does not have the legal right to post Monica Gaudio's work because it was just that, Her Work. Gaudio had posted the recipe to her online cookbook. 3. I don't believe Cook's Magazine behaved morally. They admitted wrong-doing, but did not come out and apologize. I don't know about them paying the fee of $130, but they should have apologized. 4. Legal: within the boundaries of the law Moral: within the eyes of God We all make mistakes, but it's how we admit those mistakes and accept our wrong doing that makes it moral. Always ask yourself, 'What is the right thing to do?' 'How would I want to be treated?' 5. Everyone has different beliefs, so it's difficult to comment on this. I suppose we could look at issues in the world, ie. marijuana, abortion, gay marriage, etc. Some people believe these are morally wrong yet some states have laws which allows them. Again, everyone has their own beliefs yet as citizens we need to uphold the law.

  1. I like you questions you posted to ask yourself if you are making a correct choice morally.

You say that they did not have the legal right to post her work, however my take from the article was that since she did not have a copyright on her work it was legally okay for Cook's Magazine to use. I am unsure as to what the copy right laws are for blog material.

    1. I agree with your comment that in the least an apology should have been issued to Guadio. In reference to the question of morality and the law, you came up with issues that I had not thought of such as marijuana. There are many moral issues we are constantly faced with in our changing world and our students are a big part of that change.
